Dog Vacinations

Your vet can protect your dog from many serious diseases by vaccinating them.  Dog vaccinations begin as puppies and continue through into adult dog vacinations.

Your puppy can get really sick if he/she is not vaccinated.  In fact some of these diseases can be fatal.  It is important that you talk to your veterinarian about what you puppy needs.

The vaccines that protect against these diseases are called core vaccines.  Your shar pei puppy should receive vaccinations at anywhere from six to eight weeks and receive booster shots until about four months of age.   Rabies is given once at around three months and then a booster is given once a year.

Your puppy will then receive his/her vacination on a regular basis determined by your vet.  This is usually on a yearly basis.

Diseases all dogs should be vaccinated against:

Parvovirus - is the most common of viruses and it can be deadly to puppies.  It can cause dehydration with a low white cell count.

Distemper - can cripple your dogs immune system and lead to long term complications

Adenovirus - causes canine hepatitis which leads to respiratory infections and can cause death.

Rabies - attacks the brain and the central nervous system.  Dogs pick it u from small animals and they can pass it on to humans.  Rabies is deadly.

Parainfluenza - causes kennel cough.

Vacinations to consider dependingo n your situation:

Lyme Disease - virus that causes joint disease and fever transmitted by ticks.

Leptospirosis - bateria that can cause sever disease to kidney or liver.

Bordetella - bacteria that is a common cause of kennel cough in dogs.

Corona Virus - intestinal virus causes illness and diarrhea.
