Which Dog Breeds Right For
You?
There's many different dog breeds each of excellent characteristics and characteristics that aren't so good.
Certain dog breeds are best with certain lifestyles. It's imporant to know what breeds are right for you and your
family before you make the commitment to own a dog.
Over the next few months we'll be adding many of the dog breeds up here to help you find the perfect dog for
your family. Here are some things to consider.
Match Your Dogs Temperment To You
You have a personality and temperment and so does your dog so it's importan to match your dogs temperment
to you when you are choosing a dog. If you love your couch and seldom leave it don't choose a breed that's very
energetic and needs to have at least a mile run every day. Then again if you want your dog to follow you everywhere
you go, and always be ready for a good game of catch then don't choose a lazy breed. It's imporant to make these
considerations before you purchase your puppy.
Large Or Small Dog
There's a misconception that you need a large house if you want to have a large dog. As long as you are willing
to provide your dog with the exercise it needs a large dog can actually live comfortably in a small apartment.
Large dogs do cost more to feed and for other things such as their flea protection. They also make a much larger
pile of you know what and someone's going to ahve to clean it up, so keep this is mind.
Have You Got The TIme To Exercise?
All dogs need exercise, some more than others. A good walk every day is importnat. But toy breeds like the
Yorkshire Terrier can get all their exercise just by walking and running around the house.
If you dont' have time to walk a dog every day you shoulld choose a breed that doesn't require a great deal of
exercies. If you're looking for a jogging partner there are plenty of breeds that can do that too.
What About Children?
Most dogs are fine with children as long as they are raised with them. It's never a good idea to leave kids and
dogs together unsupervised at any time. Some breeds are more protective, while others can be more aggressive just
by nature. Some dogs will let children poke and prod at them without ever nipping. The best dogs for children are
ones that dont' have an aggressive streak.
Some dogs are more demanding htan others. Some require a serious grooming every day while others require hardly
any coat care at all. Some dogs shed a great deal while others do not. Choose a dog that fits the time you can
dedicate to his/her grooming needs. If you are allergic to dog hair you'll want a breed that sheds very little.
Smart, Easy To Train, Protective?
Let's face it some dog breeds are much smarter than others. Some like the Chinese Shar Pei almost housebreak
themselves, while others like the bulldog need a lot of patience when it comes to housebreaking.
Some dogs are very good watch dogs and protectors, barking when someone steps onto your property. A dog doesn't
have to be big to be a watch dog, however to be a guard dog or a protector you'll need a larger breed like the
German Shepard.
There's plenty to consider when you are choosing a breed. Give it it the attention and thought it deserves.
Remember a dog is a lifelong commitment so choose right the first time.
